Become a Coach

Boys Run I toowú klatseen envisions boys and men possessing strength of spirit. We teach boys the skills they need to build healthy relationships and create a community of respect for self and others through running, discussion, and cultural activities that honor Southeast Alaska traditional values.

BRITK seasons usually run in the fall between mid-September and mid-December in Sitka and Juneau, and in the spring between February and May in Kake, Angoon, and Juneau. Coaches normally commit to coach 1-2 days per week after school. Contact your local community coordinator at boysruninfo@gmail.com to find the dates for this season.

Throughout the season, coaches will have the opportunity to also help out with events that engage family members and parents. All coaches will be required to attend a free training and a pre-season meeting with fellow coaches prior to the first practice. After you submit your application (see below), your local coordinator will be in touch about details and specific program dates in your town.

Coaching is an incredible way to be a mentor for young boys, as well as to think about your own emotional health and relationships. Boys Run coaches reported overwhelmingly positive experiences that helped them become better men, better teachers, and better fathers.

We look forward to working with you and will contact you to arrange an interview after we receive your application. If you have any questions, please contact our team at boysruninfo@gmail.com

“[It] gives them a place to go where they can be young boys, showing them there is a different way and different roles models; it shows them that we are grown ups that do not do [drugs and alcohol]; it uses our culture to show them to respect the land, and, when they practice their culture they are less likely to abuse drugs and alcohol.”

Antonio Abbott, Boys Run Coach, Kake

“Coaching for Boys Run was definitely a step outside of my comfort zone, it was an experience in which I grew as a man, a father, and a member of the community in general. It was a real treat to work with the group of boys that I did. In particular it was very satisfying to see them put into action some of the principles the program was/is advocating. If you’ve ever wanted to be a mentor or do something to give back to the community and potentially make an impact in the lives of young ones (and hopefully, eventually the community at large!) then this is the program for you! No running experience required…..patience will take you a lot further than strong legs in this program!”
